Suburban Warfare: A cop's guide to surviving a civil war, SHTF, or modern urban combat.

Book 2 in the Suburban Survival Series

Civil war is an unpleasant yet almost certainty. Average citizens will be called to take up the mantle of defending their homes and neighborhoods. Unprecedented challenges will come to the heartland such as bombings, drone attacks, and perhaps even genocide. Suburban residents may be living in a modern American version of the siege of Sarajevo. The majority of the population will have to survive, and fight, where they are in cities big and small.

This book is the perfect follow-up companion to Suburban Defense: A cop's guide to protecting your home and neighborhood during riots, civil war, or SHTF. Some of the topics examined are:
—How defenders can use drones,
—How to defeat armed drones,
—Urban fighting in modern American terrain,
—What authorities can do to mitigate the risks ahead,
—Vehicular gunfights, and
—Mitigating the risks of air-delivered munitions.

Excerpt: Introduction

This book was conceived as a sort of appendix to Suburban Defense; a collection of many of the topics I couldn’t include in the first book. Here I deal with topics that are more related to warfare often found in domestic conflicts and discuss what more tactically minded neighborhood groups can do. So while it’s not an offensive operations guide, it is more proactive than the first book. Defense was focused more on mobs in an anarcho-tyrannical state and Warfare looks at a world without the rule of law (WROL).

The series is a thought experiment on how average people, with no military or law enforcement skills, who haven’t been steeping themselves in the prepper/patriot movement for years can defend a modern American suburban neighborhood. Most folks aren’t going to be a guerilla in suburbia. Instead they want to know how best to protect their neighborhoods. Unfortunately, most of the works I’ve read deal with operations in the woods or how to go on the offensive.

I anticipate that a lot of readers may pick this book up once things in the country get so bad that the police aren’t doing their jobs. At that point, average citizens will be belatedly getting in the mind set that many of us have already been in. These people aren’t going to be insurgents, guerillas, or be able to form some paramilitary force.

My non-fiction series adapts military and law enforcement techniques for average, untrained citizens who have to protect their homes, families, and neighborhoods in a crisis of civility. The ideal situation is to have a group of people who are all on the same page as to what’s happening in America and that individuals will need to be responsible for their own safety. These sort of mutual defense groups were how people protected their towns and villages in the past. We will have to do it again.

I don’t subscribe to the idea that anyone will have much success going around to their neighbors and asking them to join such a group pre-crisis. In the previous book I suggest just meeting people organically in your city or county with similar interests. I met my non-law enforcement friends at shooting matches and through ham radio. Together we have a small group of wide backgrounds, from tech, military, to law enforcement. Unfortunately, we do not live in the same neighborhood.

The average person reading this book in a crisis will probably have the interests, temperament, and ability to implement the suggestions here. In doing so he may find others who are more than just scared yuppies motivated to do something. This is to whom I’ve written this book, although for readers who are getting a rude awakening into the tactical world, I’ve kept it simple for you as well.

I’ve used military field manuals, law enforcement training, and a variety of other sources to use as a framework for civilian defense. Again, I’m coming at this from the perspective of the average man on the street, capable and smart, but not necessarily military minded. Infantry tactics aren’t my strong suit. I also haven’t lived through the fall of a city or survived an economic collapse. I’m not a gunfighting instructor or a civilian tactical trainer. I’m just a cop who has some ideas on keeping suburbanites safe.

With what is on the horizon for America, literally the specter of WWIII as I write this, an economic collapse, a border crisis, and civil war, a world without police and civil order is coming. The question is not if, but when and how bad will it be when the shit hits the fan (SHTF)?[1] As I said in the prequel, my intent is to provide suggestions and hope for those stuck in cities. What follows is just a cop’s ideas and counsel on surviving urban warfare in modern American suburbs.

[1] I do not bowdlerize the term but this is the only instance of profanity here. Note that some of my fiction works do include profanity for the sake of verisimilitude.
